Moria
Like NetHack, Moria is also an early clone of Rogue. However, Moria influenced an entirely different line of Roguelikes than NetHack. ("Hacklike and "Bandlike" are the two lines. Bandlikes are called so because of the major game later in the line.) Moria's main features include: almost everything from rogue and a unique feature: a "Town" level. It released its sourcecode early on, so this roguelike has a great many clones, the greatest of which is known as AngBand. It has many fun features but, however, you may want to just play its clones because they stopped development on this game in the late 1980's.
NetHack
NetHack is sometimes considered to be the Father of all roguelikes even though it is not the first. The original NetHack was just called Hack. It was actually one of the earliest clones of Rogue. (Rogue was the first roguelike and I will go over it in another post) This version of NetHack had many improvements over Rogue like a computer pet and many other things. This game is considered the most influential Roguelike other than Rogue. This roguelike has continued development and continues on to make many versions and is playable and downloadable. Here is the site.
New Blog Reason
I needed to start anew with this blog. I'm sure you can figure out why in a matter of minutes, or seconds, for that matter.
